Higher / Fewer (2013)

A mixed media installation which addresses ideas of human transcendency and hierarchy. A single gilded figure stands above the others, just touching the ceiling. The nature of its position is ambiguous, allowing it to act as a stand-in for both established power structures, as well as systems of personal transformation. Shattered figures, resting upon lower towers, show the costs and perils of failure in such attempts to rise. Down below, in what is both a wilderness and a ruin, are a host of figures who clamber upward and overtop of one another, in adoration and/or a struggle to topple those above.

Installed at the Epcor Centre for Performing Arts in Calgary Alberta, from January 12 to March 31, 2013.
